Biography

Training

After qualifying in medicine at Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1990 and completing her general medical training in London, Dr Wilson specialized in neurology over a ten year period in London with posts at The Brook Regional Neurosciences Unit, King’s College Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and the Royal Free Hospital. She took up a position as consultant neurologist at the Royal Free Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital in 2004 where she worked in all aspects of general adult neurology, and developed the local Multiple Sclerosis service at Chase Farm and Barnet Hospitals. Since 2020 she has been working as consultant neurologist specializing in Multiple Sclerosis and related disorders at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London

Research and Teaching

Dr Wilson was awarded a PhD in neuro-immunology from Cambridge University in 2003, investigating mechanisms of repair and remyelination in MS, in which she retains a keen interest. She talks regularly on a wide range of MS-related topics at National and International forums and is a member of the teaching faculty at the UK MS Academy. She teaches medical undergraduates and postgraduates at University College London and undertakes regular teaching sessions for the MS nursing team at NHNN. She works closely with the MS research and clinical trials teams at the National Hospital and has published and collaborated on a number of original research papers on MS-related topics

NHS Practice

Having worked as a general neurologist at the Royal Free and Chase Farm Hospitals for 16 years, Dr Wilson now works as consultant neurologist with expertise in MS at the National Hospital, where she undertakes 3 MS outpatient clinics and one urgent access clinic a week, as well as overseeing the MS specialist nurse acute MS helpline. She has a special interest in service development and works closely with the other MS consultants, MS specialist nurses and clinical coordinators to deliver and expand the MS service for the large population of people with MS under the care of NHNN. She has an emphasis on multidisciplinary and holistic healthcare as well as expertise in use of all licensed disease-modifying therapies for MS, and the full range of symptomatic treatments.
